Journalism Portfolio
ABOUT
I'm Millie, an aspiring Investigative Journalist and final year Media Studies student at the University of Brighton. Tenacious and determined to build upon my existing research, writing and presenting skills in order to gain vital experience in Journalism.
I am driven and passionate about expanding my knowledge and writing about topics many view as taboo. From sex workers to the impacts of the contraceptive pill, discussions of mental health awareness and period poverty.
I want to write about things that matter. Hopefully influencing change through my investigative pieces and whilst we are on the topic of things that matter, I am also Monsters Inc's number 1 fan.
WORK EXPERIENCE
2022
Social Media Marketing Assistant
Rox Promotions
Brighton, Uk
I worked as a Social Media Marketing assistant for Brighton's biggest events company, Rox Promotions for the year of 2022 and was trusted to write blog-style digital articles upon their website in order to drive traffic to the company's events and further target their predominantly student based audience.
2023
LGIM Neurodiversity Committee Presentation Writer
Remote
I was trusted with writing an online article for Legal and Investment General Management (LIGM)'s Neurodiversity Committee presentation. This outlined, the presenter's intimate experience with Neurodiversity and the presentation is now being used across the company to spread awareness and further their employee's understanding on what neurodiversity is, and the impacts it may have.
2024
January 15th- Present

Assistant Press Officer
Brighton and Hove Green Party

Hybrid Remote, Brighton UK
In January 2024, I began my role of the Assistant Press Officer for the Brighton and Hove Green Party as a part of my 'Placements' module.

My internship continues to allow me to expand my content strategising and press release writing skills. I was tasked with writing a speech for the parliamentary candidate to perform at the launch event for her upcoming campaign whilst completing my placement with Brighton and Hove Greens.

I enjoyed my role so much that I have decided to extend my internship indefinitely, continuing to voluntarily write briefs for the parliamentary candidate ahead of her media appearances and write and pitch quotes to the media.

My placement supervisor, Charlie Norman provided me with the following referrence:

“Millie sent an email prior to the placement to ask if any planning or preparation was needed. She replied quickly to requests via email and WhatsApp and often juggled multiple requests, as will be the case in any newsroom. She was flexible, prepared to work from home or our office, requiring minimal supervision for the duration of her placement. I think Millie will make a good journalist and seemed to grasp things quickly, following through with an appropriate level of questioning to ensure comprehension. At all times Millie was prepared, professional and focused.”
